Dear Alex,

I am sending you this email because Good Counsel Homes are in some really serious financial difficulties. These have been brought about by the decline in financial support no doubt occasioned by the present instability in the market. Many people who support us are older people with limited incomes and they are very frightened of what they read about what is going on in the financial world.

As a result of this, we find ourselves seriously having to consider closing one of our Good Counsel Homes. The girls would be absorbed into the other homes, but we would then be able to take far fewer girls than we have in the past. The sad thing about this is that we regularly get far more applications than we have room for even now.

I know that these are difficult times, but if you could give us a bit of extra help right now we would be extremely grateful. Please take this opportunity to donate now. We have a chance to possibly save this home because of a large donation that unexpectedly came in from one of our friends, but that merely pushed us back from the finish line.

This is a hard time for everybody who does charitable work and relies on giving; I notice this with the various things I work on. Recently, Father Robert Fox, who is eighty years old, gave me a great saying. He was a great Fatima preacher and spiritual writer for years, and he is telling people, "Don't give me anything that I can't take with me."

Believe me, those of you who have helped us in the past and can help us this time, you will take it with you.
